Taste of Blood by Lynda La Plante – a review BLOG TOUR

So we are coming to the end of this fantastic blog tour that has given me the opportunity to read all of the Tennison books from the beginning of the series which has been an absolute treat. We are now up to book 9 and the penultimate one.

In Taste of Blood Jane Tennison has asked for a move to a station closer to home. Unfortunately she soon starts to regret her ask when she realises that her new station seems to be a lot quieter than she likes, and there are few crimes to get her teeth into. As one of her first cases she is asked to investigate a seemingly cut and dried case of warring neighbours, As Jane begins her interviews she senses that not everything is as clear as it seems and against orders starts to investigate the neighbours secrets. One of them is guilty but which one?

Taste of Blood was another great story that quickly drew me in as we slowly get to know all the main characters through Jane’s investigations. It is obvious that this isn’t going to be a simple case of neighbours fighting over their boundaries (otherwise it would be quite a short story) but I certainly didn’t guess at what the outcome would be.

I am a fan of a domestic based mystery and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. The characters were a great cast of people all with their own secrets and reasons to act the way they do. As usual the skill of Lynda’s writing is in the way the characters are drawn out and although there are a lot of characters they are all portrayed so skillfully that they were easy to keep track of.

I have to confess that at times I do find Jane a bit annoying, she constantly goes against orders and heads off to do her own thing, despite knowing it will cause trouble. Yet equally that is the same trait that has stood her is such good stead over the years, and has led to her having the career that she has built up against the odds. Again in this book we get to see a bit more of Jane’s personal life and her rather tumultuous relationships. It shows a more vulnerable side of her but also was a great way to showcase her tenacity and determination. She won’t let anything get in her way until she’s finished investigating to her satisfaction.

Taste of Blood was another superb instalment of the Tennison series and it is with a sense of excitement and well as sadness that I head towards the last book in the series.
