As I’ve said before I’m not normally a huge fan of spy fiction, however I make an exception for Ava Glass and was excited to be invited onto her blog tour.
The Trap is the third in the series that features super spy – Emma Makepeace. This time Emma has been sent to Edinburgh for the upcoming G7 summit. World leaders are gathering and the Russians are planning something that will threaten the security of the world. Emma needs to find out who they are targeting but the only way she is going to do that is by putting herself in danger and set a trap with herself as bait.
The Trap was another fantastic romp through the spy world that I thoroughly enjoyed. Emma Makepeace is a great character that I always enjoy reading. She is a feisty fearless woman who never backs down from danger. She puts her job and her country first which can be refreshing to see from a female protagonist.
This time Emma has a sidekick in the form of Edinburgh police officer Kate. Initially neither of them are happy about being pushed together but it soon becomes clear that they need each other and mutual respect grows.
The story is as high octane as normal, spanning just a week but certainly packing in the action. I like the fact that the story is told in a linear way, and the excellent writing completely draws you in. The fact it doesn’t rely on flashbacks or changing viewpoints means the pace never lets up and it’s a whirlwind from start to finish.
I really enjoyed The Trap and think this is a fantastic fun series and look forward to Emma’s next adventure.
