This was a book that actually I read a while ago after a trip to Harrogate furnished me with a free proof copy so it was good to revisit it as part of the blog tour.
Beautiful Liar’s focuses on the cold case of missing Juliet. When best friends Martha and Juliet part ways, Martha says goodbye to her friend and cycles away. The next morning Juliet’s bike is found abandoned on the towpath with Juliet never seen again. Two decades later Martha is a celebrity presenter with a new cold case show, and the first investigation is going to be Juliet’s disappearance. It soon becomes clear that Martha is going to uncover secrets that she might wish had stayed hidden.
I am a big fan of Isabel’s books and this was no exception. It was a little slow starting however soon picked up pace and I was gripped. As with all of Isabel’s books they are always very character led. I enjoy the way she mixes up the story lines to keep you guessing the outcome, but all the strands are always wrapped up neatly at the end.
The story is told mainly from the viewpoint of Martha but we also get to hear from the mysterious Casey. This is a story about friendship but ultimately shows how little we really know anyone. I found the character of Martha really grew on me towards the end although it wasn’t an instant liking. Casey was intriguing and as the novel progresses you realise more about their motivations.
This was another fantastic read from Isabel Ashdown and I am already looking forward to next months read!
