What Goes Around by Michael Wendroff – a review BLOG TOUR

Sometimes blog tours are like buses, none for ages and then two turn up at once (which is exactly not like buses if you ask me, they rarely turn up in my experience!) so another huge thank you to Rachel and her random resources for the chance to be part of this.

What Goes Around by Michael Wendroff begins with the police storming a drug den in a small American town. This town soon becomes the scene of some brutal murders and to try and solve them Detectives Jack Ludlum and Jill Jarred have to put aside their differences and pair up. They are soon caught up in a world of incels, and white supremacists, with anger being fueled by a media frenzy that is just blurring the lines as the FBI and police try to keep control.

What Goes Around is not a story for the feint hearted. It was a fast moving novel, that was part thriller but also part social commentary. It was full of all the twists and turns that a good thriller will have, yet the story covers some scary real-world issues around incel culture and racism and the wider effects of extremism.

This was a story that I enjoyed and absolutely zipped through. I liked all the characters although I did feel that the story between the two main characters was a bit of a red herring. They seemed to go from arch enemies to a relationship really quickly and it wasn’t really needed. However on the other hand due to the intensity of the rest of the story actually you needed that break in the relentless hard hitting pace.

The story was told from multiple points of view with lots of quick short chapters that gave a real sense of pace and urgency to the plot, including some from the viewpoint of the shooter which added to the intrigue and tension within the book.

This was an interesting story that I thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely keep a look out for more from Michael.
