Buried by Lynda La Plante – a review BLOG TOUR

I am a big fan of Lynda La Plante and very much enjoyed reading through her back catalogue of Tennison novels last year so was very pleased to be invited to another ‘blogathon’ this time focusing on detective Jack Warr.

DC Jack Warr and his partner Maggie have just moved to London. Maggie has a busy job as a doctor but Jack is still trying to find his passion until he is drawn into an investigation that will challenge him to a different level. A burned body is found in an isolated cottage alongside the remains of hundreds of stolen bank notes. Jack’s search for the truth soon sends him into a murky world of master criminals that will end up blurring the lines of good and bad in his mind.

This was a great start to a new series with a fantastic new character and a fast paced story with a twisty plot that kept me gripped.

As always the writing is superb with the characters coming alive off the page. I liked the slightly flawed DC Warr and it was great to see him ‘blossom’ as gradually the case draws him in, and he begins to find his passion for crime.

Without giving too much away I really enjoyed the bunch of women who feature in the story. They are an eclectic mix and I found myself swinging backwards and forward between sympathy and dislike. As with all her books there is a comedic element that I think lifts the crime novel to a different level.

The story itself was really good, O enjoyed the twisty turns of the tale and it was a interesting easy read. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
